Does It Really Matter Anyway?

As adults, we find it very easy to keep busy.

In fact, call up 10 friends and ask, “How’s it going? How have you been?”

At least 1/2 will say something like:

“Fine. Just busy.”

“Busy as always.”

“Going a million miles an hour.”

… or some derivation on the theme.

By the way, as for the other 1/2 of your 10 friends?

* 1 out of 10 will say things are great.

* 1 out of 10 will sound like they want to jump off a bridge.

* The other 3 will rate somewhere in between.

But, back to the busy people on your list…

Truth is… “busy” rarely ever equates with “productive” or “efficient” or “on-task.”

Busy usually just represents an excuse to cover up lack of purpose, lack of motivation, or lack of clarity.

If you find yourself habitually overwhelmed and busy all the time (and complaining about it to anyone within earshot), now could be a great time to re-evaluate your purpose and direction in life.

Why are you doing what you’re doing?

Are you operating on auto-pilot or do you progress through each and every day with a strong sense of purpose?

Stop.

Look.

Listen to yourself talk and your habitual state of mind.

If you’re always “busy” – now may be the time to really take a hard look at what you’re busy with and ask “Does it really matters anyway?”

If not, do whatever it takes to get out of the rut and make a change… you only have one life. Don’t waste it away in pointless “busy” mode!

Good question Jim. We sometimes make mountains out of molehills, do busy work that isn’t rewarding, or allow clutter or overwhelm to confuse us

Great article Jim – I am somewhat new to your world, and I agree busy does not always equal productive. So how do we define productive or moving forward?
