The one thing everybody wants right now…
you know, there’s a lot of crazy stuff going on in the world right now.
People are talking about another COVID lockdown two years after this mess all started.
People’s personal economies, despite what the government says, are suffering at the moment.
Inflation is real as people people’s purchasing power is robbed from them.
I think that people are feeling helpless, confused, and scared. (Which by the way, if you want to hold power and sway over a group of people, that’s how you do it. Make them confused, scared, hopeless and dependent.)
So, what can we do in our own businesses to take this into consideration and make the world a better place?
First, start by taking control of your own thoughts and leaving the problems of the world outside your door. That doesn’t mean you bury your hand in the sand and ignore those problems. But it also doesn’t mean you carry the mass psychosis going on in the world with you everywhere you go.
Create a safe haven inside your mind and inside your house from the insanity in the world.
Second, talk, speak, and write with a hopeful message that people can control their own lives and make a difference.
YES! You should sell results, but also sell hope… sell empowerment.
Third, make it fun.
I had a conversation with a buddy of mine named Liz Benny the other day, She is orienting her whole business around the theme of “fun.”
Yes, she teaches people how to build their brand on social media and increase their business. (But so do a whole lot of other people.) What gives her juice and motivates her customers is that she shows them how to make their businesses better while having fun.
People have enough stress, worry, and overall negativity in their lives. Be the person they see as a beacon of hope and fun. That’s one of the reasons why Dexter and I cut up so much on our Thursday workshops, and other stuff we do. The rest of the world is just too darn serious.
Finally, I would just tell you that as the world moves faster with the speed of social media and people fighting for your attention, you are actually in control.
You control the thoughts you hold onto and you control the thoughts you put out into the world.
Sure, you can’t control the information that gets thrown at you. But you CAN control the thoughts you hold on to and focus on consistently.
Also, make sure the thoughts you put out into the world are worth hanging onto for others as well.
I’m not gonna say that the world is involved in a struggle between light and dark or good and evil. But I will say that the world is involved in a struggle for control of your mind, attention, and self-determination. We all have to decide what we stand for… what we’re willing to accept… what we’re not willing to accept… and what we’ll idly stand by and let happen around us on every level of our lives.
Everything starts with deciding to control the thoughts that we hold consistently in our heads and the thoughts that we put out into the world with passion and purpose.
So as we head into a new year, my advice is to make a decision as to what you are willing to accept and what you are not willing to accept in your life in 2022.
