How A Single Headline Test Increased Sales By 500%… INSTANTLY

I remember it like it was yesterday.

I had just launched a new product and hit “send” on the email to my list.

I was getting ready to hit up my affiliates and start running some ads too.

But there was a problem.

No sales.

Zero.

Zilch.

Needless to say, I was in a panic.

I’d spent months putting this product together and I felt like the whole thing was going down the drain in front of my face.

So I asked myself a question: what would an awesome marketer do in this situation?

Answer: TEST the friggin’ headlines!

So I did.

Original Headline: 0 Sales

Next Headline: 1 Sale

Next Headline: 5 Sales

500% Increase In Sales With This 3rd Headline

This took me less than 2 hours to do this test since the traffic was already coming into my site and I could measure equal amounts to test the results.

We went on to sell over $100,000.00 worth of this product ($97 each).

What if I had given up on the first headline or said “good enough” with the second headline? I’d have lost out on over $80K in sales!

Moral of the story:

TEST YOUR HEADLINES.

I will never forget that morning even though it was almost 15 years ago. Testing those headlines had as much, or more, impact on me than any other experience I’ve had in copywriting (with the possible exception of when I transformed my 25+ page website into a 1-page sales letter and sales went up 250% overnight).

By the way…

The reason most people don’t test headlines is because they have a hard enough time thinking up ONE headline to test, let alone several headlines that make sense.
