The #1 Factor In Success (or Survival)!

Not too long ago, my wife and I had a unique experience of going through two days of survival training with a MARSOC Marine. This guy was a very knowledgeable wilderness expert, combat veteran, and super cool guy.

Over the course of the weekend, we learned how to trap, gather water, stitch people up, track, and…

I learned how to build a fire… Underground.

I was taking notes on everything the whole time because it was so cool!

Then This Happened

When we got to talking about some of the harder stuff (like home defense, anti-surveillance, kidnapping), he started listing off what the factors were for success in any area.

As soon as he started talking, my note-taking just went crazy! I was like, ‘Dang, this sounds like online business!’

He listed the four success factors in anything related to survival:

  1. Attitude
  2. Skill
  3. Experience
  4. Knowledge

The exciting thing was that as we were going through this stuff, this guy – who was previously the head of the Mountain Warfare School for the Marine Corps – said, “We can teach people the skills. We can get them the experience. And we can hand them the knowledge.”

He then emphasized this next part a lot.

He said, “The number one factor that determines anybody’s survival is not skill… It’s not experience…

And it’s not knowledge…

The number one thing that will determine your survival in any situation is your attitude.

Why?

Because your attitude is what is going to keep you going or make you sit in the middle of the woods having a pity party and DIE!

Your attitude is going to make people either work with you or try to push you over a cliff (so that they don’t have to deal with you).

It’s just another confirmation that everything we’ve talked about in business and life… Attitude is the #1 determining factor in your success.

Conclusion

This guy who trains people for a living on how to survive in the harshest environments told me:

  • It’s not having the right gear;
  • It’s not having the right knowledge;
  • It’s not having the right background;

He told me that attitude is the number one determining factor for successful survival.

If you flip that around and substitute everything I said about wilderness survival for online business or funnel building or book publishing, the big idea is that you can:

  • Know everything in the world;
  • Have all the best software in the world;
  • Have all the experience in the world.

But if you have a CRAP attitude…

  • You’re not going to succeed;
  • You’re not going to make any sales;
  • You’re not going to have anything good happen;
  • And life is just going to suck.

I’ve always known that attitude was important, but when someone who trains people how to survive at 30 degrees below zero, basically with a pocket knife, a Parka, and a pair of boots, tells you that attitude is your number one determining factor whether you’re going to live or not…

That means we all need to keep a check on our attitude because it will determine our success or failure.

Attitude is everything.
