5 Deadly Mistakes People Are Making with A.I.

5 Deadly Mistakes People Are Making with A.I.For many, artificial intelligence (A.I.) is the ultimate easy button for content creation and sales copy. Tools like ChatGPT have brought A.I. access to the masses in an extremely short period of time. In fact, my MOM even knows about A.I. now and has actually used it. You can create anything from an email message to a blog post to a listicle on virtually any topic.

People are saying “It’s a new dawn! A game changer! The rules have changed!”

Not so fast! The advent of fast, cheap, and easy A.I. content generation has also created some serious pitfalls for content creators and copywriters who want to take the easy route. I’m all for doing things smarter but beware these mistakes that could turn your A.I. content dream into a nightmare.

Mistake #1 – Not Proofreading

A.I. often sounds “pretty good” right out of the box. It’s easy to fall into the trap of just “trusting” that content is good and just running with it. Unfortunately, that is like a newspaper editor NOT editing any articles in the paper. Sooner or later, that’s going to bite you on the butt!

If you saved 30 minutes writing something using A.I., take 10 minutes to REALLY examine it carefully and ensure it reads correctly.

Mistake #2 – Not Fact Checking (believing everything A.I. tells you is accurate)

Make no mistake, A.I. WILL give you an answer to virtually any question you could pose or content you request. The problem is, that answer isn’t necessarily correct or even factually close. A.I. WILL make stuff up! So, don’t bet the farm on content created by A.I. that you can’t verify as accurate.

If you don’t know anything about “chinchilla ranching,” don’t publish any content you don’t get verified by a qualified chinchilla expert. You might just have a real chinchilla expert call you out as a fraud!

Mistake #3 – Not Checking for Plagiarism

Though not as bad as it was 2 years ago, A.I. can still return language or snippets that others might contest as plagiarism. Whether it is or it isn’t, you don’t need to deal with the pain of telling some chucklehead you didn’t copy their work!

Use a tool like CopyScape.com to double-check that anything you create with A.I. isn’t plagiarized. A plagiarism search on CopyScape costs less than a nickel (seriously, it’s dirt cheap), but the peace of mind is priceless!

Mistake #4 – Not Using A.I. Content as A Starting Point and Then Adding Your Own Spin

Using the content that A.I. spits out without injecting some of your soul into it is a mistake. If you use the content “as is” you’re just piling more content out into the universe. Add some vale in the form of your thoughts, opinions, stories, and more to make the content even more valuable.

Mistake #5 – Not Making A.I. Content More Relevant to A Specific Audience

Again, this mistake often comes down to laziness. Don’t just hit the button, grab the stuff, and not ensure it’s relevant and valuable to the people you want to consume it.

The more generic it is, the less valuable it is (honestly!). Help your target audience get specific results, and they will love you for it!

BONUS Mistake #6 – Overreliance on AI (not thinking for yourself)

It’s easy to hit the button. It’s easy to copy and paste. It’s easy to keep everything top level and never dive down deep into a topic.

It’s kinda like you can’t pay someone to work out for you. No matter how much you pay them to run around the block or do pushups, you will NOT get the benefit if they do all the work.

If you want to be an expert, use A.I. as a TOOL to help you get the first draft done faster than you could do it on your own. BUT don’t be the kid in high school who turned in their first draft! That kid got a “C” if they were lucky.

The only people getting paid in time, attention, money, sales, and subscribers are the people who put in “A” level work.

A.I. is here to stay but learn to use it right from the start and avoid making these deadly mistakes that will, honestly, derail most people.
