Kill 2 or 3 Birds With One Stone
As our time gets more and more thinly stretched, we all need to figure out how to maximize every minute we spend doing just about anything.
Whether it’s family, business, social, entertainment, research, or creativity… every minute needs to count.
This came home to me recently a couple of different ways.
Monday I drove my grandsons to school. Before we left I asked myself a question “How could I make this trip more fun and get closer to the little guys?”
During that 45-minute trip, I told a story and sang a song with the little fellas. When we got to school my youngest grandson said it was the most fun drive to school ever and he really enjoyed the story.
Ordinarily, we’d have listened to music or they would have napped… but I wanted us to “hang out” more than just drive to school… so I was able to accomplish several things at once. We had fun. We laughed. We had a great time. They got to school in a great mood.
Before I pulled out of the school parking lot I asked myself another question: “How can I maximize this drive home?”
Then, on the way home I had 4 meetings with my cell phone during the 45-minute return trip.
What normally would have been a time suck on the way home turned into some of my most productive time all day.
Bottom line: ask how you can maximize the time you’re spending to get the absolute most from it.
Don’t just go through the motions… make it count!
